Armtix FAQ
A. Waterproofing Technology and Principles
Q1: Why does Armtix describe itself as using “bulletproof-grade material”? How is it different from ordinary waterproofing sealant? +
A: Armtix uses core material technology derived from bulletproof-grade waterproofing materials. It offers extremely high tensile strength and more than 400% elongation. Traditional waterproof glue can easily become brittle and crack due to sun exposure. Armtix, however, moves with the building’s thermal expansion and contraction without deforming, with UV resistance up to 10X higher, delivering true one-time, long-term protection. Please view: Technical Specification.
Q2: Why does Armtix describe itself as using “bulletproof-grade material”? How is it different from ordinary waterproofing sealant? +
A: It is not a gimmick. 20-second rapid membrane formation is one of the technical features of ARMTIX. The objective is to reduce waiting time during installation while forming the waterproof protective layer more quickly. For Hong Kong’s rainy season, this installation method helps reduce the impact of weather on project quality.
Q3: Does Armtix waterproofing always require removing the existing base layer? Will the work be very noisy and dusty? +
A: This is one of Armtix’s advantages. With its strong adhesion, in most cases where the existing old coating is structurally sound, we only need to carry out deep surface cleaning and repair minor cracks before application. Full removal of the existing base layer is not always necessary. This can greatly reduce construction noise, dust, and waste disposal costs.
Q4: What happens if it rains on the day of application? Will the work have to stop? +
A: Armtix’s fast-curing properties allow us to carry out application during gaps between rain showers. As long as the surface reaches the required dryness standard for application, once sprayed, it will not be affected by rain after 20 seconds. Compared with traditional waterproofing works that require 2 to 3 days of drying time, Armtix is better suited to Hong Kong’s black rainstorm and red rainstorm weather conditions. Please check our technical specification for more info..
Q5: My village house rooftop leaks. I have tried several repairs, but it leaks again after one year. Can Armtix solve this? +
A: This depends on the final use. ARMTIX material itself already includes the concept of a protective layer and can be used as a complete waterproofing system. If an additional surface finish is required, the design should be adjusted according to the site usage.
Rooftop/Village House Leaking Problems
Q6: Will there be a strong smell during rooftop waterproofing work for commercial buildings or schools? +
A: Yes. Village house rooftops are exposed to strong sunlight over long periods, and traditional asphalt or thinner-based materials can easily dry out and crack. Armtix’s high-temperature and UV-resistant properties are designed for Hong Kong’s environment. Together with source-level blocking technology, it helps seal structural cracks and address the repeated cycle of yearly repairs and recurring leakage
Q7: Why is rooftop waterproofing so necessary in Hong Kong? +
A: Hong Kong experiences high rainfall and frequent torrential downpours. Combined with typhoon season bringing slanting rain and backflow, rooftops and exterior walls are more prone to water seepage. Older buildings or properties exposed to sun and rain for many years are more susceptible to leaks as their waterproofing layers age.
Q8: Is ARMTIX suitable for old buildings in Hong Kong? +
A: Yes. Many old buildings in Hong Kong suffer from common issues caused by aging, including external wall cracks, window-side seepage, ceiling water stains, damp bathroom walls, and podium or flat roof leakage. ARMTIX can be applied to many common leakage areas. Through professional assessment and suitable waterproofing treatment, it helps customers improve water seepage problems from the source.
Q9: If I do not know the source of the leakage, can ARMTIX help me identify it? +
A: Yes. Many water seepage problems may appear simple on the surface, but the true source may come from external wall cracks, window frame edges, rooftop ponding, aging bathroom waterproofing layers, or even the unit upstairs. The ARMTIX team will conduct a preliminary analysis based on photos, on-site conditions, and the leakage location, helping customers identify the more likely source of seepage before recommending the appropriate treatment direction.
Q10: Is major renovation always required? +
A: Not necessarily. Whether major renovation is required depends mainly on the location of the leakage, the severity of the seepage, and the condition of the wall or floor. In some cases, targeted waterproofing works may be sufficient, without the need for large-scale demolition or renovation. The ARMTIX team will first conduct an initial understanding and on-site assessment, then recommend the most suitable solution based on the actual situation, helping customers avoid unnecessary works and expenses.
C. Construction Arrangement and Process
Q11: Is it necessary to remove the sole when applying Armtix waterproofing? +
A: Not necessarily. Depending on the condition of the original waterproofing layer and the stability of the substrate, in some cases only surface cleaning, crack repair, and re-waterproofing are required, without the need for complete substrate removal.
Q12: What if it rains on the day of construction? +
A: Before construction, the weather and surface dryness will be assessed. In the event of sudden heavy rain, the team should first take temporary protective measures and then resume the project according to the actual situation to avoid affecting the quality of the waterproof layer.
Q13: : How long does the work take? +
A: The project duration depends on the leakage location, application area, weather conditions, and site environment. For smaller areas such as window edges, partial wall sections, or specific leakage points, the treatment time is usually shorter. If the work involves external walls, podiums, rooftops, or larger areas, longer construction and drying time may be required. The ARMTIX team will provide a clearer estimated timeline after assessment.
Q14: Will the work affect daily living or business operations? +
A: The team will arrange the works with the aim of minimizing disruption. For residential customers, we will try to control the construction area and working time. For commercial customers, phased construction or non-peak hour arrangements can be discussed according to actual needs. Specific arrangements will depend on the project location and on-site conditions.
Q15: Is it okay to store miscellaneous items on the rooftop during the renovation? +
A: Not recommended. Before construction, debris should be cleared as much as possible to avoid affecting the base treatment, construction safety, and material adhesion.
D. Fees, Maintenance and Warranty
Q16: Is Armtix more expensive than traditional waterproofing? +
A: The unit cost may be slightly higher in the short term, but the long-term cost can be lower. Armtix’s long-lasting solution helps save labour, material, and potential interior renovation costs from repeated repairs over the next 10 years. It also provides patented protection, making it a high-value investment for asset protection.
Q17: How much does rooftop waterproofing usually cost? +
A: In the Hong Kong market, different companies use different pricing methods. The final cost depends on the area, difficulty of removal works, complexity of the site environment, selected materials, and level of professional service. It is best to request an on-site inspection and quotation from the contractor.
Q18: How long is the warranty after completion? +
A: A warranty is not just a promise. It should be a responsible follow-up service system. ARMTIX provides 10 years of professional maintenance, including proper preservation of installation records for enquiries during the warranty period and professional judgement when follow-up is needed.
Q19: Does the waterproofing project include third-party liability insurance? +
A: We will purchase third-party liability and workers' compensation insurance of over HK$20 million to protect the safety of residents, pedestrians, and workers. Actual insurance details will generally be listed in the quotation.
Q20: If waterproofing has already been done but water is still seeping in, can Armtix be used? +
A: An assessment can be conducted first. Many cases of recurring water seepage may be due to untreated sources, unsuitable materials, insufficient coverage, or aging of the waterproofing layer.
E. Applicable Locations and Scenarios
Q21: In which locations is Armtix suitable for use? +
A: Armtix can be applied to a variety of common waterproofing locations, including ceilings, window sills, exterior walls, bathrooms, platforms, rooftops, shops, and offices. However, its suitability still needs to be assessed by a professional team based on the specific site conditions.
Q22: Is Armtix suitable for old buildings in Hong Kong? +
A: Suitable. Many older buildings in Hong Kong commonly suffer from exterior wall cracks, water seepage around windows, watermarks on ceilings, damp bathrooms, and leaks on the platform. Armtix can provide targeted solutions based on the specific site conditions.
Q23: Is Armtix suitable for shops, offices or schools? +
A: Suitable for commercial or educational settings where leaks can affect appearance, operation, and safety. Armtix's low odor and quick-installation characteristics make it ideal for these types of locations that require continued normal operation.
Q24: Should waterproofing be done before installing solar panels on a rooftop? +
A: Solar panel support frames and related installations may penetrate the waterproofing layer. It is recommended to complete the installation of the supports first, then apply the waterproofing layer over them and conduct a water seepage test. This helps avoid the need for dismantling and reinstalling in the future.
F. Safety, Environmental Protection and Risk
Q23: What should be done if there is sudden heavy rain during construction? +
A: The contractor should prepare rainproof tarpaulins and temporary drainage channels. If the waterproofing layer has not yet been sealed, it must be covered immediately and any accumulated water must be drained away. After the base layer dries, the affected area should be reworked. Otherwise, hollowing may occur.
Q26: Does Armtix guarantee that there will be absolutely no more leaks? +
A: No professional waterproofing project should make absolute guarantees, as the effectiveness can be affected by the structure, the source of the waterproofing, the construction conditions, and subsequent maintenance. Armtix strives to improve stability and durability through professional assessment and the use of suitable materials.
Q27: If I don't want a major renovation and just want to fix the leak, how can I start? +
A: It's best to provide photos of the leak location, property type, and approximate area of the leak so the team can make a preliminary assessment before deciding whether an on-site evaluation is necessary. For more information on how to contact us, please refer toContact Us.
Q28: If I only have water stains on the ceiling, does that mean there must be a leak above? +
A: Not necessarily. Water stains on the ceiling are only a symptom; the real source could be on the exterior walls, near windows, on the roof, or in an upstairs unit. Therefore, it is important to determine the source first.
Q29: After the waterproofing work is completed, how do I determine if it is effective? +
A: It is usually necessary to observe whether water stains, leaks, mold, and paint peeling reappear after rain; if necessary, subsequent tests and inspections can also be carried out according to the engineering design.
Q30: How does Armtix address the "yearly patching and yearly leakage" problem? +
A: The approach isn't just about patching the surface; it's about identifying the root cause and rebuilding a more stable waterproof layer to reduce repeated failures in the same area. Learn more atTechnical Specification.
